Mathematics Awareness Month was launched Thursday at the Mathematical Association of America’s Carriage House in Washington, DC.
The theme for Mathematics Awareness Month, April 2013, is “Mathematics of Sustainability,” which was chosen to coordinate with the Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013 initiative. The Math Awareness Month effort will spotlight the role of mathematics in helping us balance human needs against the world’s resources while operating within the constraints of nature, while seeking creative solutions for a sustainable way of life.
Mathematics Awareness Month is sponsored each year by the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics in order to recognize the importance of mathematics. Written materials and an accompanying poster highlight mathematical developments and applications in a particular area.
